Best Dua After Reading Quran – Learn What to Say

Dua After Reading Quran

Reading the Quran is not just about moving your eyes across the words; it is about connecting with Allah on a deeper level. And when you finish reciting, there is a special opportunity to seal that moment with a dua after reading Quran. Many Muslims, especially non-Arabic speakers, wonder what to say after reading Quran.

In this guide, we will walk through authentic examples of dua after reading Quran in Arabic and English, so you can easily recite them and understand their meaning. These supplications are a way to show gratitude, ask for mercy, and seek blessings for this life and the hereafter.

What to Say After Reading Quran?

Many Muslims look for a specific dua after reading Quran, hoping to find a set wording that the Prophet ﷺ used. However, scholars explain that no fixed dua is reported directly from him that must be said at the end of a recitation. What we do know is that the Prophet ﷺ encouraged believers to ask Allah through the Quran itself, turning recitation into a moment of heartfelt supplication.

A narration from Imam Ahmad and Al-Tabarani tells us that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Recite the Quran, and ask Allah by it, before there comes a people who recite the Quran and ask by it from the people instead.”

This highlights the beauty of using your recitation as a bridge to ask Allah for His favors.

The companions also practiced this. Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) used to gather his family when he finished the Quran, and they would all make dua together. This shows us that after completing a reading, whether a single sitting or an entire khatma, it is recommended to pause, reflect, and ask Allah for the good of this life and the Hereafter.

So if you are wondering what to say after reading Quran, the answer is simple: anything that comes sincerely from your heart. You can thank Allah for the blessing of recitation, seek forgiveness for mistakes, or ask for strength to live by the Quran’s teachings.

Today, many students recreate this spirit of gathering by joining online Quran circles at Shaykhi Academy, where learning and recitation are shared experiences.

Dua After Finishing Reading Quran

Ending your recitation of the Quran with a dua is a beautiful way to seal the moment with gratitude and reflection. The Prophet ﷺ encouraged us to remember Allah after gatherings of recitation or knowledge, and scholars have also preserved comprehensive supplications found at the end of the Quran.

Below are authentic duas in Arabic and English, so you can easily follow along:

1. Kaffarat al-Majlis (The Closing Supplication of Gatherings)

The Prophet ﷺ himself would never end a gathering, a prayer, or a recitation of the Quran without closing it with certain words. A hadith narrated by Al-Nasa’i and Al-Tabarani tells us that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

“The Messenger of Allah never sat in a gathering, nor recited Quran, nor prayed a prayer without concluding it with certain words.” She asked him about this, and he replied: “Yes, whoever says good words, these words will seal it with goodness, and whoever says bad words, they will be an expiation for him.” The words he used were:

سُبْحَانَكَ اللهم وَبِحَمْدِكَ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ

Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise; there is no deity but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.

This simple dua after finishing reading Quran is a way of sealing your recitation with humility and gratitude, while also asking Allah to forgive any shortcomings.

2. The Famous Dua Found at the End of the Mushaf

At the end of many printed Mushafs, you will find a long and comprehensive dua that Muslims recite after completing the Quran. It gathers requests for mercy, forgiveness, guidance, and protection. You may read it all at once or choose portions to recite regularly.

(a) Seeking Mercy and Guidance

اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي بالقُرْآنِ وَاجْعَلهُ لِي إِمَاماً وَنُوراً وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً

O Allah, have mercy on me through the Qur’an, and make it for me a leader, a light, guidance, and mercy.

(b) Asking for Knowledge and Remembrance

اللَّهُمَّ ذَكِّرْنِي مِنْهُ مَا نَسِيتُ وَعَلِّمْنِي مِنْهُ مَا جَهِلْتُ وَارْزُقْنِي تِلاَوَتَهُ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَأَطْرَافَ النَّهَارِ وَاجْعَلْهُ لِي حُجَّةً يَا رَبَّ العَالَمِينَ

O Allah, remind me of what I forget from it, teach me what I do not know from it, and grant me its recitation during the hours of the night and the ends of the day. Make it a proof for me, O Lord of the worlds.

(c) Asking for Righteousness in Religion, World, and Hereafter

O Allah, set right for me my religion, which is the safeguard of my affairs, set right for me my worldly life wherein is my living, and set right for me my Hereafter to which is my return. Make life an increase for me in every good, and death a relief for me from every evil.

(d) Prayers for a Good Ending and Protection

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ خَيْرَ عُمْرِي آخِرَهُ، وَخَيْرَ عَمَلِي خَوَاتِمَهُ، وَخَيْرَ أَيَّامِي يَوْمَ أَلْقَاكَ فِيهِ

O Allah, make the best part of my life its end, the best of my deeds its conclusion, and the best of my days the day I meet You.

(e) Asking for a Blessed Life and Hereafter

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِيشَةً هَنِيَّةً، وَمِيتَةً سَوِيَّةً، وَمَرَدًّا غَيْرَ مُخْزٍ وَلاَ فَاضِحٍ

O Allah, I ask You for a pleasant life, a peaceful death, and a return that is neither disgraceful nor shameful.

(f) Comprehensive Goodness

O Allah, I ask You for the best of requests, the best of supplications, the best of success, the best of knowledge, the best of deeds, the best of reward, the best of life, and the best of death. Strengthen me, make my scales heavy with good, perfect my faith, raise my rank, accept my prayer, forgive my sins, and grant me the highest place in Paradise.

(g) Protection from Sin and Hellfire

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ، وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ، وَالسَّلاَمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثْمٍ، وَالغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرٍّ، وَالفَوْزَ بِالجَنَّةِ، وَالنَّجَاةَ مِنَ النَّارِ

O Allah, I ask You for the causes of Your mercy, the means of Your forgiveness, safety from every sin, the gain of every good, success in entering Paradise, and salvation from the Fire.

(h) Asking for a Good Outcome

اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسِنْ عَاقِبَتَنَا فِي الأُمُورِ كُلِّهَا، وَأَجِرْنَا مِنْ خِزْيِ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الآخِرَةِ

O Allah, make the outcome of all our affairs good, and save us from the disgrace of this world and the punishment of the Hereafter.

(i) Prayer for Steadfastness and Protection from Worldly Trials

O Allah, grant us such fear of You as will keep us away from disobedience, such obedience that will bring us to Your Paradise, and such certainty that will make worldly calamities easy for us. Let us enjoy our hearing, sight, and strength as long as we live, make them our heirs, avenge us on those who wrong us, grant us victory over those who oppose us, and do not make our calamity in our religion. Do not make this world our greatest concern nor the limit of our knowledge, and do not give power over us to those who will not have mercy on us.

(j) Seeking Forgiveness and Relief

اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَدَعْ لَنَا ذَنْبًا إِلَّا غَفَرْتَهُ، وَلَا هَمًّا إِلَّا فَرَّجْتَهُ، وَلَا دَيْنًا إِلَّا قَضَيْتَهُ، وَلَا حَاجَةً مِنْ حَوَائِجِ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ إِلَّا قَضَيْتَهَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

O Allah, do not leave for us a sin except that You forgive it, nor a worry except that You relieve it, nor a debt except that You repay it, nor a need of this world or the Hereafter except that You fulfill it, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

(k) Comprehensive Dua for Good in Both Worlds

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً، وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.

(l) Closing Prayer

وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا وَنَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ الأَخْيَارِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيمًا كَثِيراً.

And may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Master and Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his noble companions.

4. Dua for Forgiveness and Mercy

O Allah, forgive me, my parents, and all Muslims.

This dua reminds us to include others in our prayers, spreading mercy to family and the wider Ummah.

5. Dua for Guidance and Steadfastness

اللهم اجعل القرآن ربيع قلوبنا، ونور صدورنا، وجلاء أحزاننا، وذهاب همومنا
