Is There A Specific Dua For Memorizing the Quran?

No, there is no specific Dua reported by the Prophet (PBUH) or mentioned in the Quran for memorizing the Quran in specific. Rather, there are so many Duas reported in the Quran and sunnah that can generally used to facilitate your tasks, including your memorization of the Quran.

Also, the Muslim is not allowed to innovate a specific Dua for memorizing the Quran or any other task, and call people to use this Dua in this situation in specific.

Dua For Easy Memorization Of Quran

The Prophet (PBUH) directed the Muslim to attach to the Quran in hard times and to say this Dua. The Dua implies keeping a good relation with the Quran that memorization helps to keep:

O Allah, I am Your slave,

and the son of Your male slave,

and the son of your female slave.

My forehead is in Your Hand (i.e. you have control over me).

Your Judgment upon me is assured,

and Your Decree concerning me is just.

I ask You by every Name that You have named Yourself with,

revealed in Your Book,

taught any one of Your creation,

or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You,

to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart,

and the light of my chest,

the banisher of my sadness,

and the reliever of my distress. (Sahih hadith reported by Ahmad)

Dua To Facilitate Memorization of The Quran

The following narrated hadith is for one whose affairs have become difficult.

This includes any affair like memorization of the Quran and any other affair. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) says:

“O Allah, there is no ease other than what You make easy. If You please You ease sorrow.” (Sahih Ibn Hibban)

Also, you can ask Allah indirectly to facilitate your memorization by saying Dua like this:

There is no might and no power except by Allah.

Dua For Making Memorization And Other Worship Easy

Another Dua for asking Allah’s support to make dhikr and worship is this:

“O Allah, help me to remember You, to give You thanks, and to perform Your worship in the best manner.” (Sahih Abu Dawud and An-Nasa’i)

Since memorization of the Quran is one of the best dhikr and worship, it can be included in this Dua.

For example, you can say the Dua that the Quran quoted Prophet Moses (PBUH) to say when Allah Almighty assigned him to the task of calling the pharaoh to worship Allah:

“My Lord! Uplift my heart for me, and make my task easy, and remove the impediment from my tongue, so people may understand my speech.” (Surat Taha, 25-28)

Isti’adhah And Basmalah Before Memorizing The Quran

Also, Isti’adha and Basmalah are a kind of Dua that Allah Almighty asks you to start your recitation of the Quran with.

Isti’adhah means to seek God’s support and protection from adversities, saying: ‘I seek refuge with God against Satan, the accursed’, while Basmalah means to seek Allah’s support by saying bismi-llāhi-rraḥmāni-rraḥīm [i.e. In the name of God, the lord of grace, the ever merciful].

Forms Of Isti’adhah Before Reading The Quran

You can say Isti’adha in whatever form narrated:

1. You can say this form:

“I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing and All-Knowing, from the accursed Devil, from his evil suggestions, blowing [pride], and spitting [witchcraft].” (Sahih An-Nasa’i, Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)

2. Also, you can say:

“I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing and All-Knowing, from the accursed Devil.”

3. The most common is this form:

“I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Devil.”

Thus, don’t miss using Dua before memorization, directly and indirectly, so that you achieve your goal.

Types Of Dua To Help Memorize Quran

Dua has three types that you can use to help you memorize the Quran:

1. The Dua Of Asking:

This type of Dua means to ask Allah Almighty directly for your need. In this context of Quran memorization, it means asking Allah directly to help you memorize the Quran, saying, for example, O my Lord, help me to memorize and learn Your Book. Also, you can say, O my Lord, make me of the people of the Quran.

2. The Dua Of Praise And Worship:

This Dua means to ask Allah for your needs indirectly by praising Him and worshipping Him. Using this type of Dua to help you memorize the Quran includes seeking the means that help you in your mission, not depending on your oral Dua with no exerted effort in practice. For example, you can start with a tutor to support you and guide you. Also, you can set a suitable plan for your level to work on.

Thus, using both the Dua of asking and that of worship makes your words and tasks more effective.
