Reciting the Quran is not only an act of worship but also a direct path to mercy, tranquility, and closeness to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized again and again the immense rewards and blessings tied to reading, memorizing, and teaching the Quran.
This article gathers authentic hadith about reading Quran, organized clearly under themes. Each hadith is presented in both Arabic and English, so you can appreciate the original wording and also understand its meaning directly.
The Prophet ﷺ highlighted many virtues of reciting the Quran that touch every part of a Muslim’s life. These hadiths show not only the spiritual rewards but also the personal transformation that comes with connecting to Allah’s Book.
1. The Virtue of Gathering to Recite the Quran
Among the many hadiths highlighting the honor of engaging with the Quran, this narration beautifully captures the spiritual reward of reciting and studying it together.
The Prophet ﷺ described the immense blessings that descend upon those who gather in Allah’s houses to read His Book:
“No people gather in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it together, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy envelops them, the angels surround them, and Allah mentions them among those with Him.” (Sahih Muslim)
This hadith shows the collective benefits of reciting the Quran in gatherings. Reading and studying together bring peace, mercy, and blessings from Allah. It also proves the importance of reading Quran regularly as a community practice that strengthens both faith and unity.
2. Reward for Every Letter
“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will receive one good deed as a reward, and each good deed is multiplied ten times. I do not say that ‘Alif Lām Mīm’ is one letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lām is a letter, and Mīm is a letter.” (Riyad as-Salihin 999)
Here, one of the most famous hadith on reading Quran teaches us that every single letter of the Book brings multiplied reward. This highlights the immense virtues of reciting the Quran even if you read a small portion daily. For beginners, it means that every effort counts and is valuable in Allah’s sight.
3. The Quran as an Intercessor
“Recite the Quran, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection to intercede for its companions.” (Sahih Muslim)
This hadith emphasizes one of the greatest benefits of reciting the Quran: on the Day of Judgment, it will plead with Allah on behalf of those who were close to it. This shows the importance of reading the Quran consistently, so it becomes your defender in the Hereafter.
4. Elevation through Recitation
“It will be said to the companion of the Quran: Recite and ascend and recite melodiously as you used to do in the world, for your position will be at the last verse you recite.” (Sunan Abu Dawud, Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi)
This hadith shows that the Quran not only benefits us in this life but also elevates our rank in the Hereafter. The more you read and perfect your recitation, the higher your status will be in Paradise. It is one of the clearest proofs of the virtues of reciting the Quran daily with devotion.
5. The Reciters With the Angels
“The one who recites the Quran and has mastered it will be with the noble, righteous scribes (the angels). And the one who recites it and finds it difficult, striving hard, will have two rewards.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
This hadith highlights that those who perfect their recitation will be placed among the angels, showing the highest honor. At the same time, those who struggle but keep trying gain double the reward, proving that the virtues of reciting the Quran are open to everyone, no matter their level.
6. The Believer and the Quran
“The example of the believer who recites the Quran is that of a citron: its fragrance is pleasant and its taste is good. The example of the believer who does not recite the Quran is like a date: it has no fragrance, but its taste is sweet. The example of the hypocrite who recites the Quran is like basil: its fragrance is good, but its taste is bitter. And the example of the hypocrite who does not recite the Quran is like the colocynth: it has no fragrance and its taste is bitter.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
Here, the Prophet ﷺ gives vivid examples to show how Quran transforms a believer’s character. Reciting it not only beautifies your faith but also makes you a source of goodness for others. It stresses the importance of reading the Quran as part of your daily identity.
7. Teaching and Learning the Quran
“The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
This hadith explains that the highest rank among Muslims is reserved for those connected to the Quran, both learners and teachers. It underlines the benefits of reciting the Quran with the intention of growth and sharing that knowledge with others.
This hadith perfectly reflects the mission of Shaykhi Academy to spread Quran learning worldwide through qualified teachers and structured curricula. Whether you’re starting from Noorani Qaida or advancing to Ijazah level, our system nurtures both learning and teaching.

8. The People of Allah
“Indeed, Allah has His own people among mankind.” They asked: “Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “They are the people of the Quran, the people of Allah and His close ones.”(Sunan Ibn Majah)
Being among the people of the Quran is the greatest honor a believer can hope for. This hadith shows that those who dedicate themselves to reciting and living by the Quran are given a special closeness to Allah.
9. Parents Honored by Their Child’s Quran
“Whoever recites the Quran, learns it, and acts upon it, his parents will be crowned on the Day of Resurrection with a crown of light whose radiance is like the sun, and they will be dressed in garments more valuable than the world. They will ask: ‘Why have we been given this?’ It will be said: ‘Because your child learned the Quran.’” (Al-Hakim)
This hadith shows that the virtues of reciting the Quran extend beyond the individual to their family. A child who learns and applies the Quran brings honor to their parents on the Day of Judgment, making the Quran a source of eternal family blessing.
10. Reciting surahs “Al-Baqarah and Aal ‘Imran)” Protect from evil
“Recite the two bright ones, Al-Baqarah and Aal ‘Imran, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection as if they were two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recited them.” (Muslim)
This hadith shows that these surahs will intercede for their readers on the Day of Judgment, offering unique protection and honor.
The Blessing of Surah Al-Baqarah
“Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing, abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the magicians cannot withstand it.” (Muslim)
Surah Al-Baqarah is a source of blessing and spiritual strength. Its neglect brings loss, while its recitation protects from harmful forces.
Al-Baqarah in the Home
“Do not make your houses like graves. Shaytan flees from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.” (Muslim)
This narration encourages Muslims to fill their homes with the Quran, especially Surah Al-Baqarah, which repels Shaytan and keeps the home spiritually alive.
Reciting Ayat Al-Kursi
“When you go to your bed, recite Ayat Al-Kursi. A protector from Allah will remain over you, and no devil will come near you until morning.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)
This verse, the greatest in the Quran, affirms Allah’s power and sovereignty. Reciting it daily guards the believer against the jinn, evil whispers, and unseen dangers throughout the day.
The Last Verses of Al-Baqarah
“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
These two verses are a shield of protection for the believer at night, making them a simple yet powerful habit before sleep.
11. Surah Al-Kahf and Protection from Dajjal
“Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.” (Muslim)
This hadith highlights the role of Surah Al-Kahf in protecting believers against the greatest trial, the Dajjal, by strengthening faith and clarity.
Surah Al-Kahf on Fridays
“Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday will have a light that will shine for him between the two Fridays.” (Al-Hakim, authenticated by Al-Albani)
Reciting Surah Al-Kahf every Friday ensures a week filled with spiritual light and divine blessings.
12. Surah Al-Mulk as Protection from the Grave
Ibn Mas‘ud reported: “Whoever recites ‘Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion’ (Surah Al-Mulk) every night, Allah will protect him through it from the punishment of the grave.” (Al-Nasa’i, authenticated by Al-Albani)
According to another hadith on virtues of Quran, reciting Surah Al-Mulk every night shields the believer from the torment of the grave.

“Recite Surah Al-Kafirun before sleeping, for it is a protection against shirk.”
This surah renews the believer’s declaration of Tawheed before sleep. It is like ending the day with a clear statement of faith, free from any compromise with shirk.
14. Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Nas
“No one has sought protection with anything better than Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Nas.”
Known as Al-Mu‘awwidhatayn, these surahs are a complete spiritual shield. They protect against envy, black magic, hidden harm, and every evil force that humans cannot see.
