Engaging in reading, memorizing, and reciting the Quran not only reflects your commitment to Islam but also enhances your understanding and strengthens your faith.

At first glance, learning the Quran may appear daunting, especially if you’re not familiar with reading Arabic. You might think you’ll never be able to read, recite, or memorize the holy Quran like the professionals you see online or on TV.

However, these are outdated misconceptions. With the advancing technologies, you and your children can learn the Quran quickly and easily online. In fact, not only can you learn the book of Allah, but you can also excel in your studies like never before.

In the subsequent sections, we will discuss how one can learn the Quran fast and easily where we show the top tips that specialists recommend for an easy, fast, and smooth learning experience.

Additionally, we discuss the importance of understanding the Quran’s meaning and how to get the most out of the learning process. Finally, we give advice on how one can stay motivated and on track with their study goals. So, let’s dive in directly into this important topic!

Is It Easy or Hard to Learn the Quran?

Learning the Quran is not as hard as it may seem. While memorizing the Quran can be challenging, the presence of countless Hafiz around the world proves that it is achievable. It’s important to recognize that everyone has different speeds and abilities when it comes to memorization, but with dedication and effort, success is within reach.

In the Holy Quran, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says:

“وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ”

“And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember. So, is there anyone who will be mindful?” [Al-Qamar 54: 17]

In the following sections, we will divide the learning approach into 5 steps for fast learning and 5 steps for easy learning to make the process as easy as possible for you!

How to Learn the Quran Fast and Quickly?

To learn the Quran fast, there are multiple effective approaches that you can follow:

1. Start with the Small and Simple Surahs

The fastest way to learn the Quran is to start small. For instance, Juz Amma and Juz Tabarak (Ajza 30 and 29 of the Quran), have the smallest surahs with quite short verses that can be used to start with. They contain the most famous Surah Al-Ikhlas, which speaks of one of the pillars of beliefs of Islam (the unity of God), and only consists of 4 verses and can be easily and quickly learned for daily use.

2. Memorise Surahs with Repeating Verses

Memorizing surahs with repeating verses can shorten the timeframe for studying and lead to a fast and expedited learning approach.

Surah Ar-Rahman, for instance, has a verse that is repeated 31 times which would make finishing this surah quite fast and easy.

Allah (SWT) says in the holy Quran:

“فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ”

“Then which of your Lord’s favours will you ˹humans and jinn˺ both deny?” [Ar-Rahman 55:13]

3. Work with a Tutor

Working with a Quran tutor is ideal because, especially if you are a beginner, you need someone to correct your mistakes and help you read the Quran correctly. This is the quickest and easiest technique. Try to mimic the tutor’s words while paying close attention to what they say. After that, read on your own, and they’ll correct you.

4. Prepare a Calm Environment and Take Notes

Make sure you sit in a quiet and calm environment throughout your learning period to avoid getting distracted by your surroundings. Keep your entire attention on your goal (learning the Quran) and rid your mind of any stress or unwelcome thoughts. The mind can only truly think about one thing at a time.

Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:

“وَإِذَا قُرِئَ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥ وَأَنصِتُوا۟ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ”

“When the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent, so, you may be shown mercy.” [Al-A’raf 7:204]

Taking notes with a pen and paper or on a laptop can make the learning experience faster and richer. Research shows that learners who take notes, retain information better. When you listen more actively it makes you better at recognizing important concepts and thus learner faster.

5. Listen and Practice Regularly

Listen to Quranic recitations regularly to help strengthen your memory through repetitive and melodic encoding. Audio resources serve auditory learners which complements other memorisation strategies. After listening try and recite yourself and compare it to the reciter reading. It’s okay if you still can’t pronounce correctly; simply pay close attention to the reciter, try to mimic his pronunciation, and continue the process until you do.

Practice memorisation tools include Quran memorization mobile applications, Quran podcasts, and audiobooks, among others that you can check here

How to Learn the Quran Easily?

To learn the Quran easily is certainly the most requested and desired learning method by all Muslims. Here are some suggestions for an easier approach:

1. Learn Arabic Principles

The first step towards a proficient learning experience is to learn the language of the Quran. This translates into learning the Arabic language and the pronunciation of letters, alongside the points of articulation of the Arabic letters alphabet. Learning the basics and how to link letters together or form words and sentences can definitely help make the process easier.

2. Learn Tajweed Rules

Tajweed is considered the grammar of the Quran. It is the set of rules and regulations one needs to follow in recitation to make it accurate. Learning the tajweed is a necessity for mastering the Quran recitation.

The purpose of adding Tajweed signs and symbols to the Quranic script is to assist readers in correctly reciting the Quran without changing the contents of the passages. The purpose of adding Tajweed signs and symbols to the Quranic script is to assist readers in correctly reciting the Quran without changing the contents of the passages. By fully comprehending them, learning the Quran will be much easier.

3. Understand the Meanings

Understanding the meanings of the verses can significantly enhance your learning process and make memorisation easier. Read the Quran’s translation, try to grasp every verse, and note any parts you don’t understand.

You will encounter several terms or verses in the Quran that you do not understand when reciting it; as a result, you will need to check up their Tafseer (meaning). To fully comprehend it, you might also read the English version first, and then the Arabic version. And don’t be scared to ask a reliable Quran tutor anything you don’t understand.

Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran:

“أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَآ”

“Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Or are there locks upon their hearts?” [Muhammad 47:24]

4. Use the Pomodoro Technique (25/5)

The Pomodoro Technique consists of dedicating 25 minutes to a task, followed by a 5-minute break, to boost productivity. These brief breaks are beneficial for memory and help learners recall information more effectively, which can help them learn the Quran verses easily.

5. Integrate into Prayer

Incorporating memorized verses into your daily prayers enhances both memory and spiritual connection. Begin with short verses and gradually add longer ones to deepen your Salah experience. Consistency is key, and given that prayers are 5 times a day, there is no better chance for repetition and memorising.

Small surahs are an easy way to smoothly integrate into your daily prayers, such as Surah Al-Kawthar:

“إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَـٰكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ

فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنْحَرْ

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ”

“ Indeed, We have granted you ˹O Prophet˺ abundant goodness.

So, pray and sacrifice to your Lord ˹alone˺.

Only the one who hates you is truly cut off ˹from any goodness˺.”

Importance Of Learning the Quran in a Fast and Easy Way

The importance of learning the Quran as fast and easily as possible lies in the guidance and enlightenment it provides. Muslims around the world read and recite the Quran to seek guidance in their lives and to follow God’s path. The Quran offers insights into faith, morality, and the purpose of life. Additionally, it serves as a timeless source of spiritual guidance and inspiration, resonating with Muslims around the world and surpassing geographical and cultural boundaries.

The Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) said,

“من قرأ حرفاً من كتاب الله فله به حسنة، والحسنة بعشر أمثالها، لا أقول ألم حرف ولكن ألف حرف ولام حرف وميم حرف”

“Whoever recites a letter from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.” Tirmidhee no. 2910 – [Ha-san]

So, let’s discuss 8 main points of why it is important to learn the Quran:

1. Learning the Quran Directs You To The Right Path

Learning the Quran will direct you to follow the correct path to success in this life (dunya) and the hereafter (akhirah). This is because the Holy Quran is the word of Allah (SWT) and serves as a guiding light for all.

2. The Quran Helps You Learn Islam

The Holy Quran is the best way to learn about Islam. The Quran is eternally fixed. Nothing has been added, removed, or changed from it; nor will it ever be. This is because the Quran is the words of Allah (SWT) and no one can change it.

Allah (SWT) says in the holy Quran:

“إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ”

“It is certainly We Who have revealed the Reminder, and it is certainly We Who will preserve it”

[Al-Hijr 15:9]

3. Following the Prophet’s Sunnah

Following our Prophet Muhammad is one of the most honourable actions of Muslims. The prophet (s.a.w) regularly read the Holy Quran and followed  Allah’s guidance. You get closer to Allah by following his example through learning and reciting the Holy Quran.

Allah (SWT) says in the holy Quran:

“قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ”

“Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If you ˹sincerely˺ love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

[Ali-Imran 2:31]

4. The Quran Serves as Your Intercessor on the Day of Judgment

The Prophet (s.a.w) encouraged us to read the Quran, as it will intercede for its reciters on the Day of Judgment.

The Prophet (s.a.w) said:

“‏ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لأَصْحَابه”

“Recite the Qur’an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It.”

[Sahih Muslim 804a]

5. Quran Fills our Souls with Peace

Reading the Quran makes your soul full of peace and mercy. As you reflect on the verses, you will realise how to earn Allah’s (SWT) acceptance and pleasure (Rida). This will bring you happiness, peace of mind, and satisfaction, which will empower you to move forward in life.

Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran:

“وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌۭ وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًۭا”

“We send down the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss.”

[Al-Isra 15:82]

6. Prophets’ stories and Narratives can Inspire You

The Holy Quran contains many stories of our Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w), among other prophets, discussing the challenges they faced and their prayers to Allah. These narratives teach important lessons by giving insights that can guide us through our actions and decisions today and every day.

7. Learning The Holy Quran Raises Your Status

Learning the Quran is a great opportunity to reach high virtues and raise your status with Allah (SWT). If you aim to be among those most favored by Allah (SWT), commit to learning the Quran, mastering it, and then teaching it and sharing this knowledge with others.

The Prophet (s.a.w) said:

“”‏ خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ”

“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”

[Sahih al-Bukhari 5027]

8. Memorising the Quran Brings Great Rewards

Memorising the Quran can be quite rewarding as Allah (SWT) has told us through the Prophet (s.aw.) that whoever memorizes and obeys the Quran’s teachings will be greatly rewarded by Allah (SWT). Also, it will raise their status in Paradise to higher levels equivalent to their memorisation.

The Prophet (s.a.w) said:

“‏ يُقَالُ لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَكَ عِنْدَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَؤُهَا ‏”‏

“One who was devoted to the Qur’an will be told to recite, ascend, and recite carefully as he recited carefully when he was in the world, for he will reach his abode when he comes to the last verse he recites.”

How Long Does It Take to Learn the Quran?

The average time to become a Hafiz and memorise the entire Quran is three to five years. It varies from person to person; therefore, it isn’t an exact answer. While some individuals can learn the entire Quran by heart in less than two years, others may need up to five years.

The Prophet (s.a.w) said,

“ “‏ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَهْوَ حَافِظٌ لَهُ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَةِ، وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَهْوَ يَتَعَاهَدُهُ وَهْوَ عَلَيْهِ شَدِيدٌ، فَلَهُ أَجْرَانِ ‏”‏‏

“Such a person as recites the Qur’an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur’an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward.” Sahih al-Bukhari [4937]

You can learn the Quran in 2 years or even less. With devotion, consistency, and hard work, anything is achievable.

1. Learn During the Fresh Hours of the Day for Quick Understanding.

You can start by learning 2-3 passages during fresh hours. The fresh hours’ definition differs per person, but ideally, this could be after a break or early in the morning.

2. Concentrate on a Manageable Number of Verses per Session.

Try and concentrate on a specific and realistic number of verses each learning session. This helps to prevent overwhelm and promote in-depth comprehension.

A popular method for memorising the Quran in two years is to memorise 10 verses a day, which provides a balanced workload that is easier for many people to handle. Dividing the process into smaller, daily chunks helps avoid overwhelm and guarantees consistent progress.

If you start with Juz Amma (30th Juz) and move forward, you’ll find yourself finishing a great sum of surahs in a small amount of time which can encourage you to learn more and more expediting the process and thus achieve your end goal of learning the Quran in two years or even less.

7. Learn Tafseer and Tajweed

Focus on learning the tafseer (meanings of verses) and the rules of tajweed (to improve pronunciation and recitation) which can help make the learning process easier and faster.

8. Do not Leave the Quran.

It’s important to maintain motivation and avoid leaving the Quran for lengthy durations or giving up entirely. Though memorising the Quran takes a lengthy time, it is achievable and worth it.

Never forget the tremendous benefits and rewards that come with learning the Quran by heart. Consider the importance of this admirable journey and its spiritual advantages. You will remain motivated if you recognise the importance of what you are working for.
