Friday is the holiday of Muslims’ week. It is characterized by many virtues that give Muslims an opportunity to get closer to God and renew their faith, including the Jumaa prayer, reading certain Surah, praying for the Prophet, and others.
In this topic, you will find out which Surah to recite on Friday and some benefits we will get by reading Surah Al Kahf on Friday.
Virtues and blessings of Friday:
Friday is a great day since our prophet tell us many times about its virtues. For example the Hadith. The Prophet ﷺ said,
“The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it, Adam was created. On it he was made to enter Paradise, on it he was expelled from it. And the last hour will take place on no day other than Friday.”
This Hadith tells us the great events that happened or will happen on this day such as Adam’s creation and other events mentioned to explain to us the importance of Friday in Islam.
Other Hadiths tell us how should spend this day and some etiquette. These etiquettes include:
1. Full-body wash before Jumaa prayer attendance.
Islam encourages us to keep clean and take care of ourselves. Muslims realize that our bodies are a blessing from Allah and we should clean up ourselves. On Friday, we attend Jumaa prayer every week after full body wash which is called in Arabic (ghusl)
2. Wearing the best clothes.
Allah loves seeing his blessing on his slaves. Our prophet Muhamed peace be upon him taught us in the following Hadith that wearing our best clothes does not mean arrogance.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“He who has, in his heart, an ant’s weight of arrogance will not enter Jannah.” Someone said: “A man likes to wear beautiful clothes and shoes?” Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Allah is Beautiful, He loves beauty. Arrogance means ridiculing and rejecting the Truth and despising people.”
3. Attendance of Jumaa Prayer and listening to the Khutbah attentively.
The Zohr prayer is called on Friday Jumaa Prayer. It consists of a Khutbah (sermon) given by the Imam before the prayer and 2 Rakaahs. We should listen to khutbah with great attention and without talking. You can learn more about this in our Online Islamic Studies Course For Beginners.
4. Duaa especially before Maghrib prayer.
Before the Maghrib prayer, this time on Friday is a time for Duaa since Allah grants the wishes of the believers. Islam encourages us to clean up our bodies and our hearts.
5. Sending many blessings and salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):
Our Prophet Muhammad -peace be upon him- tells us that this has many virtues in all days. He encouraged us to do this frequently on Friday.

Surah Kahf presents the four temptations of the world and how to overcome them. Since it presents stories about all of them and tells you how to do with them. For example:
A. Persecution in religion:
This is explained in the story of the people of the cave and the surah is called after it. This story tells us about people who were exposed to persecution in religion.
