Benefits Of Reciting Ayatul Kursi

Ayatul Kursi offers divine protection, strengthens faith, and brings peace. Reciting it after prayers or before sleep safeguards against evil, as highlighted by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). What is Ayatul Kursi?

Ayatul Kursi is the verse number 255 in Surah Al-Bakara. By reciting it, you  will come to understand who Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala Is, The ayah is:

﴿اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ﴾

This means:

Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Why is ayatul kursi so important?

What does Ayatul Kursi do?

ِIn Ayatul Kursi, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala describes Himself to us, He describes some of His names and attributes that include the meaning of 

Monotheism, power and creation of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, and other meanings that help Muslims to understand about Allah the Almighty and His power, so they can worship Him with both fear and hope, It is the greatest Ayah in the Holy Quran. 

In the hadith, Ubayy bin Ka’b (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

عن أبي بن كعب رضي الله عنه قال‏:‏ قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏:‏‏”‏ يا أبا المنذر أتدري أي آية من كتاب الله معك أعظم ‏؟‏ قلت‏:‏ الله لا إله إلا هو الحي القيوم، فضرب في صدري وقال ‏:‏‏”‏ ليهنك العلم أبا المنذر‏”‏‏.

This means:

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Abu Mundhir! Do you know which Ayah in Allah’s Book is the greatest?” I replied: “It is ‘Allah la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayum (Allah! none has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living…)’.” (2:256) Thereupon he (peace be upon him) patted me in the chest and said, “Rejoice by this knowledge, O Abu Mundhir!”

Benefits of reciting Ayatul Kursi

Every Muslim strives to perform as many good deeds as possible in their life, aiming to enter Jannah (Paradise). One of the benefits of reciting Ayatul Kursi, as we will explain, is that it can help you attain Jannah:

1. Knowing and praying with the greatest name of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala

In Ayatul Kursi, the greatest name of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala:

عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ، قَالَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ الأَعْظَمُ الَّذِي إِذَا دُعِيَ بِهِ أَجَابَ فِي سُوَرٍ ثَلاَثٍ الْبَقَرَةِ وَآلِ عِمْرَانَ وَطَهَ

This means:

It was narrated that Al-Qasim said:

The Greatest Name of Allah, if He is called by which He will respond, is in three Surah: Al-Baqarah, Al ‘Imran and Ta-Ha. (Hasan)Another chain for something similar from Al-Qasim, from Abu Umamah, from the Prophet (saas)

2. Ayatul Kursi Leads Its Reciter Jannah

If you read Ayatul Kursi after each of the five mandatory prayers, you will enter Janah inshaAllah; you can find this meaning in the following hadith

عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ‏- رضى الله عنه ‏- قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏- مَنْ قَرَأَ آيَةَ اَلْكُرْسِيِّ دُبُرَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ مَكْتُوبَةٍ لَمْ يَمْنَعْهُ مِنْ دُخُولِ اَلْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا اَلْمَوْتُ

This means:

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever reads Āyatul Kursī at the end of (after) each mandatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering paradise except death.”

Ayatul Kursi protects You from Evil

Do you know that Satan himself told that Ayatul Kursi will protect Muslim who read it before sleep? You will find this meaning in the next hadith

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ وَكَّلَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِحِفْظِ زَكَاةِ رَمَضَانَ، فَأَتَانِي آتٍ، فَجَعَلَ يَحْثُو مِنَ الطَّعَامِ، فَأَخَذْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ لأَرْفَعَنَّكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏.‏ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ فَاقْرَأْ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ لَنْ يَزَالَ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ حَافِظٌ، وَلاَ يَقْرَبُكَ شَيْطَانٌ حَتَّى تُصْبِحَ‏.‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ صَدَقَكَ وَهْوَ كَذُوبٌ، ذَاكَ شَيْطَانٌ ‏”‏‏.‏

This means:

Abu Huraira said, “Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) put me in charge of the Zakat of Ramadan (i.e. Zakat-ul-Fitr). Someone came to me and started scooping some of the foodstuff of (Zakat) with both hands. I caught him and told him that I would take him to Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him).” 

Then Abu Huraira told the whole narration and added “He (i.e. the thief) said, ‘Whenever you go to your bed, recite the Verse of “Al-Kursi” (2.255) for then a guardian from Allah will be guarding you, and Satan will not approach you till dawn.’ ” On that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “He told you the truth, though he is a liar, and he (the thief) himself was the Satan.”
