Benefits Of Reciting Surah Waqiah

Surah Al-Waqiah, a Makki Surah, serves as a profound reminder of the Day of Judgment, urging believers to reflect on their actions in this world and prepare for the Hereafter. The Surah, whose name means “The Event,” emphasizes the certainty of the resurrection and the immense impact it will have on all of creation.

As one of the most powerful Surahs in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Waqiah offers vivid descriptions of both the rewards for the righteous and the consequences for the disbelievers, urging believers to strengthen their faith and focus on the ultimate goal: attaining success in the Hereafter.

Benefits Of Reciting Surah Waqiah

Surah Al-Waqiah, revealed in Makkah, begins with a powerful description of the Day of Judgment. The name “Al-Waqiah” itself signifies a significant event, emphasizing the certainty of the resurrection and its immense impact.

This Surah is a profound reminder of the transient nature of worldly life and the eternal reality of the Hereafter which is why it is usually taught in many Quran courses for adults and Quran courses for kids.

1- Being Aware of the Day of Judgement

The significance of Surah Al-Waqiah is highlighted in a Hadith where the Prophet ﷺ, when asked by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) about his aging, mentioned it among other Surahs that profoundly impacted him due to their descriptions of the Hereafter.

This Hadith underscores the weighty themes these Surahs address, urging believers to reflect on their message and prepare for the Hereafter. The Hadith states:

“Abu Bakr said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, you have grown old.’ He replied: ‘Surahs Hud, Al-Waqiah, Al-Mursalat, Amma Yatasa’aloon, and Idha Al-Shamsu Kuwwirat have made me grow old.’”

2- Affirmation of the Resurrection

One of the key themes of Surah Al-Waqiah is the affirmation of the Day of Judgment and its tremendous events. These verses illustrate the dramatic transformation of the world, urging believers to recognize Allah’s ultimate authority and prepare for the inevitable accountability. The Surah vividly portrays the upheaval that will occur:

(When the earth is shaken with convulsion, and the mountains are broken down, crumbling, and become scattered dust.)

3- Clarifies Division of Humanity on the Day of Judgment

Surah Al-Waqiah categorizes humanity into three groups, emphasizing the differing outcomes based on one’s deeds. This division reminds believers to strive to be among the foremost in faith and good deeds, ensuring a favorable outcome in the Hereafter.

(And you will become three categories: Then the companions of the right—what are the companions of the right! And the companions of the left—what are the companions of the left! And the forerunners, the forerunners—)

4- Rewards for the Righteous

For those granted Paradise, Surah Al-Waqiah provides a vivid depiction of their eternal bliss:

(In the Gardens of Pleasure, a multitude from the former peoples and a few from the later peoples.)

These verses highlight the rewards awaiting those who lead righteous lives, inspiring believers to adhere steadfastly to the guidance of Allah.

5- Punishment for the Deniers

The Surah also warns of the severe consequences for those who reject the truth. The terrifying imagery serves as a reminder of the consequences of disbelief and disobedience.

(Then indeed, you, O those astray who are deniers, will be eating from trees of zaqqum and filling with it your bellies.)

6- Evidence of Allah’s Power

The Surah emphasizes Allah’s absolute power in creation and resurrection. These verses inspire awe in Allah’s creative power and reinforce faith in His ability to resurrect and judge humanity.

(We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone in that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know.)

7- Highlights the Qur’an as Divine Guidance

Surah Al-Waqiah concludes with a reminder of the Qur’an’s divine origin and sanctity:

(Indeed, it is a noble Qur’an, in a Register well-protected; None touch it except the purified.)

This affirmation underscores the importance of reverence for the Qur’an and adherence to its teachings which in turn, highlights the importance of memorizing the Quran.

8- Strengthening Faith in the Afterlife

Reciting Surah Al-Waqiah serves as a powerful reminder of the reality of the Day of Judgment, urging believers to stay focused on the afterlife and live with purpose. The vivid descriptions of the rewards for the righteous and the punishment for the disbelievers create a sense of urgency, helping the believer maintain strong faith and good deeds. The verse:

(And the heaven will split open, becoming gates)

Encourages deep reflection on the events of the Hereafter, reinforcing the believer’s awareness of their responsibility to lead a righteous life.

9- Enhancing Spiritual Strength and Focus

Surah Al-Waqiah also provides a spiritual benefit by strengthening the believer’s resolve to avoid distractions and focus on what is truly important in life.

(And indeed, you are to be gathered to your Lord in judgment.)

Serves as a reminder of the accountability before Allah, prompting the believer to seek His forgiveness and mercy through repentance and good deeds, leading to spiritual purification.
