We will define the meaning of the term of wudu and its relation:
Definition of Al-Wudu “Ablution”
1. Linguistic Definition of wudu
Wudu in the Arabic language’s terms means: cleanliness, freshness, and brightness. It was named wudu because it makes its performer’s face clean and illuminated with a spiritual light.
2. Wudu in Islamic Law “Sharia”:
It is to use pure water for washing specific organs, namely: Face, arms, head and feet; it is a special act of organ washing.
3. Wudu Rulings
It is a mandatory act for those who intend to perform Salat “prayer”, or prowl around the al-Kaaba, or read the Holy Quran and so on.
Allah stated that in this Quranic verse: “O you who believe! When you rise to pray, wash your faces and your hands and arms to the elbows, and wipe your heads, and your feet to the ankles.” Al-Maa’idah Verse, No 6.
“يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ وَامْسَحُوا بِرُءُوسِكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ ۚ”
Allah’s Apostle said, “The prayer of a person who does (passes, urine, stool or wind) is not accepted till he performs (repeats) the ablution.” A person from Hadramout asked Abu Huraira, “What is ‘Hadath’?” Abu Huraira replied, “‘Hadath’ means the passing of wind from the anus.” Narrated Abu Huraira, Book 4, Number 137.
